Downtown Carlyle will be busy with activity this weekend as the City of Carlyle will host its annual street fair on Friday and Saturday. It will be at the Clinton County Courthouse square.
"The street fair is one of our favorite weekends of the year," City of Carlyle Office Supervisor Kayla Heimann said. "It's a chance for the community to come together, enjoy great food, live music, fun activities, and make memories with family and friends."
The City of Carlyle is hosting a care package collection drive in honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Donations can be dropped off at the Carlyle City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at K&J Chevrolet in Carlyle from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Donation boxes also will be set up at the street fair. Cards will be available as well for writing notes that will be sent to troops.
Additionally, items such as snacks and candy, drink mixes, travel size toiletries, new socks, sunscreen and lip balm, playing cards and small games, notebooks and pens, and cards and letters of encouragement will be collected for the troops.
There will be food trucks and vendor sales and a soda and beer wagon on both Friday and Saturday. All of those events are organized by the City of Carlyle.
This year's kids area will feature a designated space for toddlers, ages 1-3, with age appropriate toys. There will be inflatables, mobile arcade, nine-hole putt putt course, gaga ball pit, laser tag, zip line, toxic meltdown, and extreme air jump. The toddler area, inflatables, mobile arcade, putt putt course, gaga ball pit and laser tag will be available from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. Zip line, toxic meltdown and extreme air will be available from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Laser tag is available from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
A Bus Load of Bubbles is also coming.
All kids activities are sponsored by Carlyle Walmart.
There will be a car cruise sponsored by Clinton County Car Club from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. All vehicles and clubs are welcome. The first 30 vehicles receive a dash plate. There are no fees.
The pet parade sponsored by Carlyle Animal Hospital will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Participants are asked to dress their pets in their best costume for a chance to win great prizes.
There will be 3-on-3 basketball, cornhole and poker all day Saturday. Those events are sponsored by Huels Oil Company, HMG, TDK Consulting, Imming Insurance, Color Crew and All 8's Poker. The basketball and cornhole tournaments both start at noon. Participants can register the day of the cornhole tournament.
There will be live music by Lost Highway Band from 6-10 p.m. on Friday and Chapman Brothers Band from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday.
The bands are sponsored by Huels Oil Company, K&J Chevrolet, Constitution Bank and Express Lube.
