There was a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Carlyle Animal Hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2027. Photo by Matt Wilson    Carlyle Animal Hospital staff took the first step toward the building of their new facility on William Road in Carlyle on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
They hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for their new facility. After a rainy morning, the skies cleared and the sun was shining for the ground-breaking.
"This is a super exciting day for us," Carlyle Animal Hospital owner Michelle Scott said. "I'm really glad the weather cleared up and it turned into a great day. My family is in town to support me on this adventure."
Construction has already started and dirt is being moved. The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2027.
The property has access to an enterprise zone fund and Tax Incentive Financing funds. That is making it possible for Scott to move forward with the project and bring the new facility to Carlyle.
The building will be a little over 5,000 square feet. It will be exclusively veterinary services and there will be no boarding or grooming.
Carlyle Animal Hospital currently is located on Ridge Street. Scott said the business has been so successful that they need a bigger space.

"This new facility is going to allow us to be more efficient and see more patients," Scott said. "We will hopefully be able to provide extended hours to the area."
Scott said they are going to provide the same kinds of services they are providing at the current building but will be adding a little more ultrasound and maybe some scoping services.
They are looking to have five veterinarians on staff, more space for appointments, increased capacity for surgical cases, expanded hours with additional morning and evening appointments on select days, and more room to grow.
There will be two different procedure rooms, a large surgery area and a large treatment area. They will be able to provide anything from spades and neuters to exploratory surgeries and orthopedics. They will do outpatient care and wound treatment.
Scott purchased Carlyle Animal Hospital in 2020.
"I have been thinking about what to do to expand the services," Scott said.
Initially, Scott considered remodeling the current building. That cost would be similar to building a new practice.
Scott said the next step will be working on getting the utilities going. They will pour concrete and hopefully have a building in place by winter. Johannas Construction out of Centralia is building the facility.
"I have been in Carlyle for 20 years now and I'm really looking forward to making a permanent new development to Carlyle, bringing more veterinary care to the area," Scott said. "I appreciate everyone  supporting this project and getting it going."
