Halloween fun and trick-or-treat times for area communities

    Five little pumpkins

    The first one said,
    "Oh my, it's getting late."
    The second one said,
    "There are witches in the air."
    The third one said,
    "But we don't care."
    The fourth one said,
    "Let's run and run and run!"
    And the fifth one said,
    "Now, we're ready for some
    fun!"
    Then ooohhh went the wind,
    and out went the lights.
     And the five little pumpkins
    rolled out of sight.
    Below are the dates and times the area witches, ghosts and goblins are allowed to be out trick-or-treating. Please be sure to turn your porch light on for the trick-or-treaters, and trick-or-treaters are advised to only go to the houses with outside lights on. Be safe!
    Albers — Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., for eighth grade and under. Trunk-or-treating also will be held on Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Albers Lehrter/JC Park, sponsored by the Albers Park Board.
     Aviston — Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., for eighth grade and under.
    Beckemeyer — Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., for ages 12 and under.
    Breese — Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., for eighth grade and under. Bring the kiddies to the annual Halloween Pumpkin Parade on Saturday, Oct. 25. Lineup for the parade begins at 2 p.m. in the alley next to Turf Bar. The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. and march down Main Street to Dutchman's Tavern. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, including ages 0 to eighth grade; small groups, and large groups.
    You also can check out the Sixth Annual Breese Chamber of Commerce Pumpkin Trail after the costume contest winners are announced. There will be tons of free family-friendly fun, food and drinks.
    The annual Nightmare of Main Street pub crawl (for adults 21 and over) will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight. Those 21 and over — dress your best to win prizes!
    Carlyle — Friday, Oct. 31, from 3 to 5 p.m., for business trick-or-treating at participating businesses. Just look for the orange ghost in the window to let you know who has all the goodies. Regular (residential) trick-or-treating will be Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. Children ages 12 and under can dress up in their favorite costume and travel from house to house to get all kinds of yummy treats. Don’t forget to visit only the homes that have their porch lights on. The Carlyle VFW will also host their first trunk-or-treat on Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Carlyle VFW.
    Germantown — Friday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., for eighth grade and under. In conjunction with the Halloween door-to-door trick-or-treating, stop by Germantown American Legion at 6 p.m. for a Halloween Costume Contest prior to trick-or-treating. The costume contest is sponsored by the Kernel Nut Club.
    Keyesport — Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., for children ages 12 and under. The annual Halloween parade will be Saturday, Oct. 25, with sign-ups beginning at noon at Keyesport Fire House. Lineup for the parade will start around 1 p.m. and the parade starts at 2 p.m. The parade will travel west on Clinton Street, turn right on Fourth Street and turn right on Railroad Street, and back to the firehouse. Prizes will be awarded in various categories — preschoolers/walkers, bicycles, motorcycles, small and large floats, golf carts, antique cars, horses, community groups and youth groups and businesses and civic organizations.
    New Baden — Friday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., for ages 12 and under. The New Baden Park Boosters is hosting a Halloween in the Park event this Friday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., at New Baden Village Park. There will be a trick-or-treat candy trail, food trucks, and fun for all.
    Trenton — Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., for ages 12 and under. On Friday, Oct. 24, from 3 to 5 p.m., the Trenton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring their annual business trick-or-treating. Families can walk around to participating Trenton businesses along Broadway Street for a Halloween treat. It's a safe, family- friendly way to celebrate Halloween!
