BandReunionCCMore than 100 people attended a reunion for Central High School flag corps, chorus, band members/volunteers and school musical/volunteers from the years 1983 to 2013. Photo by Matt Wilson    A nice crowd was at the Albers American Legion on Saturday, Oct. 11, for a reunion of the Central Community High School flag corps, chorus, band members/volunteers and school musical/volunteers from the years 1983 to 2013.
Vickie Voytas taught at Central Community High School from the fall of 1983 to the spring of 2013. Many of her former students attended the reunion.
"It was a great time of my life to be a part of Central," Voytas said. "I was able to meet a lot of great people while I was there. And it's great to see so many people show up here for the reunion."
More than 100 people attended the reunion that raised $2,500 for the Central band program.
Voytas said she was appreciative of everyone who came to the reunion.
"I know there is a lot of other things you guys could be doing on a Saturday than come to a reunion," Voytas said, "and you were even brave enough to bring a spouse here."
There were people who traveled long distances to attend the reunion — one came from Jacksonville, Illinois; one from Peoria, Illinois; and the farthest was a drum major from Houston, Texas.
"We have band people here, we have choir people here, we have musical people here, we have got a little bit of everything," Voytas said.
Scott Von Bokel, who was one of Voytas' former students, was the master of ceremonies for the event.
The event started with Voytas directing the attendees as they played the National Anthem on a kazoo.
Attendees played various games during the day.
Voytas hopes to have the reunion every five years.
"It was a great time and I just enjoyed seeing all the kids that I taught and the people they have become," Voytas said. "They have become great people."
